Like many during the pandemic, Amanda found herself furloughed from her job. She now had time to expand her culinary skills. Her goals were to learn new dishes so she could cook meals for her partner and their children to enjoy. For the first time in years, Amanda had time to think about cooking and explore what she and her family would like.

Learning more about cooking

After taking online cooking classes and reviewing tried-and-true family recipes influenced by her Mexican heritage, she was surprised to discover that she loved cooking! Amanda found renewed inspiration to learn new cooking skills. She explored new cuisines, cooking tips and began buying new kitchen tools to help her make healthy (and other not so healthy) dishes that excited the entire family.

Support from friends and family

As time went on, more recipes were tested and tasted by friends and family (while maintaining social distancing, of course). Although she knew she’d made a lot of progress in her cooking abilities, Amanda did not anticipate the amount of positive feedback she would receive. Family members were thrilled to try her dishes and friends asked her for her recipes.

Inception of Amanda's Menu

Using her background in web design and content writing, Amanda assembled a small team to help document her recipes and write blogs to help more people improve their cooking skills without becoming overwhelmed.

And thus Amanda’s Menu was born - a website centered on creating a community of easy-to-read recipes, educational cooking tips and stories about cooking.

When asked about her main goals in helping people learn about cooking, Amanda offers this advice:

“Don’t get overwhelmed or be too hard on yourself. Focus on one recipe or type of food you want to learn and make it once a week so you can learn from the repetition. Then move on when you feel ready.”
